Doug is teaching his 9th annual class on Fine Art Craft Photography at the very successful "Making Art, Making a Living" program of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the lead arts organization for the entire Cape Cod and Islands region.

Leading exciting, fun and productive hands-on workshops that teach artists and craftspeople how to photograph their work has always been a hugely rewarding part of my photography career.

I started giving how-to slide shows and workshops in the 1980s in New York City (The New School, 92nd St. Y, Long Island Craft Guild), New Jersey (NJ Designer Craftsmen and the Stone Harbor School of Art), Virginia ( Richmond Craftsman’s Guild), Tennessee (Joe E. Evins Appalachian Centers for Crafts and have been doing it ever since.

When I moved to Cape Cod, MA, I had the great fortune of connecting with the marvelous day-long series of workshops designed to help artists and craftspeople succeed: “Making Art, Making a Living”, now part of the regional organization, The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. I have been teaching MAML photography workshops for 9 years now. Also, I have had the pleasure of conducting workshops for the Falmouth (MA) Artists’ Guild, also on Cape Cod.

Participants bring to the all-day, hands-on workshop their camera (film or digital), film, a tripod, examples of their work, and lunch is a good idea. At the end of the day, they go home with professional-level photographs that they themselves have taken with notes about how they took them. A number of folks have come back to show me the brochures that they have published using their workshop photos. That is VERY satisfying!

A typical workshop is limited to 12 people, priced very reasonably and we shoot every kind of art or craft, large or small. Perhaps your art or craft association or you and a group of people you can get together is ready for such a workshop. I would be happy to help make it happen.
